Now that you have more or less mastered the basic tools of spiritual practice, we will start to encounter the key figure of Christian spiritual practice – Jesus.
That he is a historical figure there is little doubt. The accounts we have of his life are, of course, neither biographical nor historically rigorous. They were all written by people and communities who were taken by his presence and his message. They are testimonies rather than biographies.
But for the purposes of meditation, their factuality matters little. Their meaning is well beyond any issues of factuality. What we focus on in these meditations is the deeper meaning, the archetypal meaning if you wish, of these stories of Jesus’ life.
