EXERCISE 2: What are your current images of God?


Find your comfortable chair and assume the meditating position described in Exercise 1.

Take a few slow, deep breaths. As you let your breath out, feel your body relax. Experience any tension you might have in your body drain out through your feet into the floor.

Now, think about your life to date. Can you remember when you first heard the word “God”? What images did that word conjure up for you? Were you taught to pray? To whom were you taught to pray? What images came to your mind?

Did these images change over time? What made them change?

I’m not asking, at this point, whether you believe in God or not. I just want you to be aware of the images that come to your mind when you think of the word “God.”

Note these images down in your notebook for future reference.
